Mark Ruzycki Retirement
On September 9th, 2023, the Denver Fire Department celebrated the Aloha Ceremony and Retirement for Assistant Chief Mark Ruzycki with several guest speakers including the Chief of the Department Desmond Fulton. Mark was hired on December 16th, 1989, with the houses on probation were Engine 7, Engine 20, Tower 4 and Engine 24. The first permanent assignment was with Tower 1, then Engine 1 and the final assignment as a Firefighter/Technician with Rescue 1. which were all at Station 1. Promoted to Lieutenant in April of 1996. Assigned to dispatch for 1 1/2 years, the Roving lieutenant in District 2 for 1 1/2 years and promoted to Captain April of 1999 with the assignment to Tower 27. Promoted to Assistant Chief in October of 2009 and assignments were Training for a few months, Special Operations, Chief 7, and Chief 4. Spent the majority as Chief 4 from 2012 to 2023, during that time Mark was a Shift Commander from 2015 to 2017 and he then returned to District 4.
