At 10:59 on February 2nd, 2023 Fort Collins 911 (FC911) dispatched Poudre Fire Authority to a working structure fire in the 1700 block of Choice Center Drive in Fort Collins. Tower 1 arrived to a large 4-story multi-unit student housing structure with nothing showing and started the investigation. Battalion Chief 1 arrived and assumed command. Firefighters deployed a standpipe operation but did not need to use it because of the fast water application by the fire sprinkler system that quickly extinguished the fire, keeping the flames and majority of smoke and heat to one room. Two people were in the unit at the time of the fire. One of them called 911 and reported something burning in another bedroom in the unit. The smoke alarm was sounding, and the resident saw water coming from the activated fire sprinklers. The residents, along with everyone else in the building, evacuated and no injuries have were reported. Residents and employees were allowed back inside at about 11:30, although the three residents of the unit with the fire are temporarily displaced. PFA fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental, and the ignition source was a small refrigerator. Additional information provided by Poudre Fire Authority
