South Metro Basement Fire

At 15:10 on December 1st, 2023 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported residential fire in the 8000 block of S. Jay Dr. in Jefferson County. The 911 caller reported flames in their laundry room and while enroute, Battalion Chief 1 reported visible smoke from C-470 and Platte Canyon Rd. First arriving Engine 13 initiated a transitional attack from the front door which quickly suppressed the basement fire. All searches of the home were clear, and firefighters prevented the flames from extending to other areas of the residence. No injuries occurred and Fire Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by combustibles placed too close to heating equipment.
