Loveland Commercial Fire

On July 18th at 16:46 Loveland Fire Rescue Authority was dispatched to a water flow alarm at the Scheels All Sports Store 4755 Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Johnstown. Engine 50 arrived on scene within three minutes of the dispatch and reported smoke showing from the loading dock area. The alarm was upgraded to a commercial structure fire which dispatched additional resources to the scene. Engine 50’s officer investigated and found a working fire inside the cardboard compactor in the loading dock with a sprinkler activation in the compactor loading room just inside the building. Engine 50 deployed an attack-line and secured their own water supply. Tower 46 and Squad 46 arrived on scene and were assigned to the interior to verify evacuation and check for fire extension, they reported smoke inside the building, but no fire extension, the sprinkler activation had held the fire to the compactor. Battalion 41 assumed command on arrival and assigned Chief 48 as the Alpha Division Supervisor. Companies deployed a fog-nail through an opening in the container to achieve initial fire knockdown. Additional companies arrived on scene and were assigned to assist with fire control, overhaul, ventilation and controlling the sprinkler system. Once the fire was controlled the compactor dumpster was pulled away from the structure utilizing Squad 46 and opened up for overhaul. The last fire company cleared scene at 19:28.
