La Junta Structure Fire

At approximately 07:29 on November 6th 2023 the La Junta Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 block of W. 3rd St. for a possible commercial structure fire. Upon arrival, Engine 1 reported heavy smoke was showing from the roof and fire was visible from Charlie side of the structure. Companies began fire attack in a defensive strategy until additional units arrived on the scene and transitioned into an offensive strategy. Truck 1 was assigned to perform vertical ventilation; with the building having a metal roof, it was harder for firefighters to vent. Crews were able to move interior overhaul aiding in getting a knock on the fire. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.
