La Junta Structure Fire

At 01:21 on July 5th, 2023 the La Junta Fire Department and Cheraw Rural Fire Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of 32000 Hwy. 109  just west of the town of Cheraw. Upon arrival, Chief Davidson called out a working fire with heavy fire and smoke on the south side of the building. Due to the heavy fire conditions, crews attacked the fire in a defensive strategy. Mutual aid was requested from Rocky Ford Fire Department for tenders to assist with shuttling water to the scene. Once the fire had been extinguished the building was declared a total loss. Crews remained on scene until 07:30 overhauling the building to make sure all hot spots were cooled. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
