West Metro Structure Fire

On April 15th, 2023 at 19:55 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 5400 block of W. 13th Ave. in Lakewood. Engine 1 arrived a two-story abandoned building with smoke showing from the 2nd floor and pulled a line in for fire attack with Medic 1 and Medic 11. Engine 3 secured the water supply and crews found a small smoldering fire that was quickly put under control. The structure had been closed off by a chain link fence, but neighbors noticed the gate was open. While crews quickly located and extinguished the fire, it took time to search the building for people who may have been inside and no one was found. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
