On March 6th, 2023 just after 17:00 Pueblo 911 Communications Center dispatched Pueblo Fire Department to the 1600 block of E. 5th St. in Pueblo on a reported residential structure fire. Engine 36 arrived quickly due to their stations proximity to the address. They sized up a single family residence with heavy smoke showing from the Charlie side. They made a fast attack and stretched an 1 3/ cross lay to the rear of the home. Engine 36 updated that a basement fire was located and that they were making access through the Charlie side of the home. Engine 35 caught the hydrant and supplied Engine 36. Truck 51 crew secured utilities and Squad 81 completed a primary check of the home and found it all clear. Two turtles were rescued from the home and were returned to the residents. Two cats were still unaccounted for. Units brought the fire under control about 15 minutes and crews stayed on scene overhauling the structure and ventilating the smoke from the home.
