Just after 15:00 on April 19th, 2023 Pueblo Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 120 block of W. Evans Ave. in the Mesa Junction neighborhood after a resident knocked on Station 3‘s door and alerted them to the fire behind their station. As their crew began to look around the corner tones dropped as 911 callers were reporting the fire as well to the Pueblo 911 Communications Center. Engine 33 quickly responded a few hundred feet out of their station and sized up a small detached garage that was fully involved and pulled an 1 3/4 cross lay for fire attack. Smoke from the fire was visible across the Pueblo area and incoming crews could see it from miles off. Engine 31 arrived and caught the plug on Quincy St. and W. Abriendo Ave.  and supplied Engine 33 while Chief 3 took command. Crews were able to get a quick knock on the fire but high winds from the Red Flag weather spread the fire to a fence and some vegetation in the yard. After fully extinguishing the blaze, firefighters were able to collapse the shell of the building in on itself. It appeared the building was being squatted in by homeless individuals. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Additional information provided by Code 4 Photography
