On December 12th, 2024 Adams 12 school district FutureForward at Washington Square Fire Science conducted a live burn to provided hands on experience for a few of their disciplines. Their Construction students built two sturdy small houses/sheds, the Fire Science program was able to observe fire behavior, participate in hose line management and fire extinguishment. Their CSI team was able to deploy their drone and then have hands on arson investigation opportunities. Their EMT program students were able to observe to better understand the operation on fire ground. Thornton Fire Department Truck 74 was on hand to observe. This was an excellent example of corporation between the separate disciplines at the school. Prior to the exercise Fire Instructor Joel Sherry presented the former Deputy Superintendent of Adams 12 School District, Priscilla Straughn, with a helmet and picture in thanks for her overseeing the development of the program.
