Adams 12 School District Washington Square Fire Science
Washington Square Fire Science located in Adams County (Colorado) and is part of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools which operates the FutureForward at Washington Square facility that provides career and technical education programming across the entire school district.
The Washington Square Fire Science currently any 10th, 11th or 12th grade year student may enroll in classes at no cost for tuition. Transportation is provided from all six of the District’s High Schools. One of these programs is a two-year Fire Science program. These classes cover 2 periods a day during the school year. First year students enroll in Firefighting 1 & 2 where second year students enroll in Firefighting 3 & 4. Students can earn college credit through CCA in the Fire Science Program. Weekly classes include classroom, hands-on and physical training. First year curriculum include hands-on practical skill in firefighter safety, fire behavior, building construction, PPE, fire streams, fire control, fire detection, alarm and suppression systems, loss control and communications. Students are exposed to authentic experiences with local fire departments and on onsite fire apparatus.
Second year curriculum advance training in firefighting skills such as extinguisher liquid and gas/vapor fueled fires, auto extrication, hazmat response awareness, advanced search and rescue skills and team leadership. Students will have the opportunity to test for the State of Colorado Fire Fighter I certification, CAPT (candidate physical aptitude test) and earn college credit.
