On August 2nd, 2024 at 15:21 Aurora 911 dispatched Aurora Fire Rescue to a residential structure fire in the 4200 block of S. Kittredge St. Call notes stated fire coming from the roof with a male walking away armed with a gun. Battalion Chief 2 arrived on scene to find a two-story home with fire coming from a second story bedroom window. Engine 10 secured their own water supply and pulled a line for fire attack, Ladder 6 for search and Ladder 8 went to the roof and determined there was no extension to the attic. Engine 10 secured the water supply. While responding Medic 108 was fired upon by the suspect and was struck by a bullet in the windshield, and thankfully the crew was not harmed. Crews remained on scene conducting overhaul and salvage operations. No injuries were reported and the suspect was taken into custody a short time later after a brief standoff.
