Aurora South Moline Street Fire

On October 11th, 2024 at 16:30 Aurora Fire Rescue Engine 4 was dispatched to an outside smoke investigation in the 1140 block of S. Moline St. Aurora 911 upgraded the call to a structure fire with multiple callers. Engine 4 arrived to a single-story single-family with heavy smoke in the backyard and upgraded the call to a working structure fire. Engine 4 started fire attack with heavy fire from a wooden fence, several trash cans, electrical pole and a shed near the back corner of four adjacent backyards. The fire posed a threat to the four surrounding homes before the fire crews quickly began attacking the fire. Engine 4 nearly depleted water from its engine tank before Engine 6 arrived and established a second water supply. A small propane tank was moved away from the fire that was infringing on it and causing the tank to overheat and potentially explode. None of the residents of the surrounding homes were displaced. One individual was assessed for injuries but no treatment or transport to a local hospital was necessary. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
