Castle Rock House Fire

On November 2nd, 2024 minutes after midnight Castle Rock Fire & Rescue Department responded to a possible structure fire with multiple 911 callers reporting a house on fire spreading to trees and threatening a neighboring home in the Founders Community of Castle Rock. While responding, first due Engine 153 and Medic 153 observed a large volume of fire consuming the Bravo/Charlie corner of 566 Howe Place. Engine 153 laid in from Enderud Blvd. and Howe St., then positioned on the Alpha side of the small two-story single-family dwelling with a basement. Company 153 advanced an 1 3/4 line to the backyard for fire control. Battalion Chief 151 positioned across the street on the Alpha side, assumed command, and assigned Quint 151 to advance an 1 3/4 line interior for primary search and fire control. Medic 151 was assigned incident medical and Quint 155 assisted inside with primary searches. Engine 153 quickly knocked the exterior fire and confirmed all occupants evacuated safely, but their pets were unaccounted for and likely inside. Quint 151 made the second floor, pulled all celling and confirmed attic fire extension was extinguished. Engine 152 positioned their apparatus at a secondary hydrant and were assigned RIT. Safety 151 secured utilities and functioned as the incident safety officer. A cat was located during the primary search and reunited with its humans. After searches and positive pressure ventilation were complete, RIT was disbanded by Command. Engine 152 was assigned to perform a secondary search and assist other companies with overhaul on the Charlie side. Quint 151 and Quint 155 recycled and worked from the roof to open the chimney. Crews worked for about 90-minutes to extinguish all remaining hot spots. No injuries occurred and the cause is under investigation.
