South Metro Structure Fire
On November 16th, 2024 at 13:08 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire at 9178 Roadrunner Drive in Highlands Ranch. PIO 12 arrived on scene and confirmed to be a working fire with smoke and flames on the Bravo exposure. Tower 18 arrived on scene to encountered a rapidly spreading exterior fire that had extended from the fence and up the side of the home and into the second floor and attic of the two-story home. Tower 18 crews deployed a 1.75 attack line from the exterior, while establishing a 5” supply line to a nearby fire hydrant. Engine 16, arriving shortly thereafter, also deployed a 1.75 line from Tower 18 to help suppress the fire. One occupant was home at the time of the fire but was able to safely evacuate without injury. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the exterior and attic, preventing it from spreading further into the home. The intense heat from the fire caused windows at a neighboring home to break. Firefighters had the fire under control by 13:29. No injuries were reported and investigators from the SMFR Fire Marshal’s office have determined that the cause of the fire was the improper disposal of smoking materials.
