La Junta Structure Fire

At 06:59 on April 6th, 2024 the La Junta Fire Department responded to the 1600 block of Carson St. in La Junta for a possible structure fire. On arrival, Engine 1 reported moderate smoke coming from an apartment at the address. Crews made a quick offensive attack to find the seat of the fire inside the apartment. They found a couch on fire with flames creeping up the wall. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and set up a ventilation fan to clear smoke from the apartment. The adjacent apartments and attic space were checked for fire extension; no extension was found. The resident was transported for possible smoke inhalation. The fire is suspected to have been caused by the resident smoke while using their oxygen concentrator. Additional information provided by the La Junta Fire Department.
