Larimer County Horse Rescue
At 09:27 on July 20th, 2024 Berthoud Fire Protection District was dispatched to a large animal rescue in the 2400 block of West Larimer County Rd. 6 in unincorporated Larimer County at the request of a veterinarian that was on scene of a horse that had become stuck in mud in a shallow creek. Engine 62 arrived on scene and assessed the situation and requested additional resources from both Berthoud and Loveland Fire Rescue Authority. Crews worked with the veterinarian and property owners to remove the elderly horse from the ditch. After removing the horse from the mud, she was placed on an oversized flexible rescue stretcher and moved away from the water where she was tended to by the property owners and veterinarian. Firefighters are specially trained and equipped in large animal technical rescue for in incidents such as this. Additional information provided by Berthoud Fire Protection District
