On July 31st, 2024 West Metro Fire Rescue held a dedication for the new Engine 16 with a “washing in” ceremony at Station 16, 3880 Upham St. in Wheat Ridge. The “washing in” is a fire service and West Metro tradition. The ceremony held a bucket brigade, which the water from the old engine was moved from a bucket to the new engine, where it was poured into the tank, then the wash down and dry off. Kids of all ages were able to tour all the fire apparatus and tour the fire station. Engine 16 is a newer Pierce Velocity with a 500 gallon water tank and 1250 GPM pump.
