Platteville Gilcrest Community Safety Day 2024
Community Safety Day
On October 5th, 2024 Platteville-Gilcrest Fire Protection District hosted their Community Safety Day at Station 2 in Gilcrest. This event included hands on learning in the smokehouse educational trailer, a children’s physical agility test, demonstrations of thermal imaging cameras, demonstration of breaking a window to perform VEIS, nozzle operations to put out simulated fires, Touch a Truck, cornhole games and more. Children also had a unique opportunity to learn from paramedics on how to stop a bleed. Parents were able to gather information on updated car seat laws and children in second grade from Platteville or Gilcrest were able to pickup a free bicycle thanks to “Wish for Wheels” and the cooperating sponsors. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office was able to bring their K-9 “Cowboy” out to enjoy the fun as well. Med Evac was also on hand with the medical helicopter tours.
