Engine Familiarization Training
The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels Fire Brigade held engine familiarization training on the east side of the tunnels on April 8th, 2026. The team reviewed equipment on the apparatus, hose deployment, nozzle control and turret operations. CDOT has 22 staff members on the brigade who train once month to keep their skills sharp. When needed the team can respond to fires near the tunnels to assist neighboring departments in Clear Creek and Summit Counties. The team has a pumper, two quick response vehicles, a tug and a roll back wrecker based in the tunnels that respond to emergencies and other calls for assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
