Aurora Third Alarm Apartment Fire

At 01:24 on May 26th, 2026 Aurora 911 dispatched Aurora Fire Rescue to an apartment building on fire in the 700 block of N. Dillon Way after receiving multiple 911 calls. Due to the reported fire conditions inside an occupied apartment building a 2nd alarm was called. First arriving Engine 8 observed flames showing from the second and third floor on the east side of the building and directed a hose line to darken down the visible fire. Crews made entry into the building with hose lines and found heavy smoke, high heat and fire conditions inside. Several residents were rescued by firefighters using ground ladders and additional crews searched the interior of the building for occupants. At 01:47 a large volume of fire was consuming the attic space and partial structural collapse of the roof was imminent. Command ordered all firefighters to withdraw from the building and defensive operations began. A 3rd alarm was called for additional resources to support that operation. Three aerial master streams and several hose lines on the ground were used to bring the fire under control around 1 hour into the incident. Two residents were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and are expected to be ok. 24 apartments sustained major damage and approximately 50 residents have been displaced. The American Red Cross was requested for those families with emergency housing. Extensive overhaul is needed to extinguish all of the hot spots and firefighters will remain on scene through the morning. Fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
