National Wildland Firefighter Day

National Wildland Firefighter Day is celebrated annually on July 2nd to honor the bravery, sacrifice and dedication of wildland firefighters and support personnel. Established in 2022 by the Fire Management Board, the day falls within the annual Week of Remembrance (June 30 to July 6). It is a time to thank federal, state, local, tribal, and contract firefighters, while also reflecting on those who have fallen in the line of duty. In 2026, the day is especially poignant as half a dozen wildfires burn across the state and we mourn the loss of three wildland firefighters who were killed in the line of duty last week near Grand Junction. Thank you for your service!
