Approximately 15:30 on August 15th, 2026 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a reported house fire in the 300 block of N. Troy St. When the resident went to investigate a loud popping noise, they found smoke and fire in the basement and quickly evacuated the home, prior to crews’ arrival. First arriving Engine 2 reported smoke showing from the front door and upgraded the response to a working structure fire. The fire was located in the basement and firefighters began fire attack. Ladder 5 arrived on scene and conducted a primary search of the residence which was negative.
While conducting a search Ladder 5 found a water pipe had ruptured and extinguished a large portion of the fire. Engine 4 was assigned to conduct a secondary search which was found to be clear and negative. The incident was placed under control within 15 minutes. The cause has been determined to be accidental caused by an electrical issue. Fire, smoke and water damage to the basement area. 2 people were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
