South Metro Electric Vehicle Fire

On August 11, 2026 at 11:45 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire on southbound I-25 just north of the Lincoln Ave. off-ramp. It was determined that this was an electric vehicle that was on fire pulled to the shoulder of the highway, with the lone occupant safely evacuating from the vehicle. Due to the fact that this was an electric vehicle involved this incident was upgraded to a Hazardous Material incident adding the SMFR Hazmat team. Crews were able to get water on the fully involved vehicle fire and able to determine that the lithium-ion batteries were not damaged, or in thermal runaway. Investigation found that the driver had a blown tire and was attempting to exit the highway when the tire separated and started the fire. Lone Tree Police Department was able to open the off-ramp by 12:45. Information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
