Engine 2602 Push-In Ceremony

On August 23, 2026, the Fort Lupton Fire Protection District proudly welcomed Engine 2602 into service at Fire Station 2 during a traditional push-in ceremony attended by firefighters, district leaders, and members of the community.

The ceremony began with remarks from Fire Chief Greg Ward, who thanked the District Board and the community for their continued support. Chief Ward emphasized that Engine 2602 represents more than a new piece of apparatus—it is an investment in the community, an investment in our firefighters, and an investment in our future.

As part of the long-standing fire service tradition, the Station 2 crews transferred a bucket of water from the engine being replaced to the new apparatus, symbolizing the passing of service from one generation of equipment to the next. IAFF Local 5553 President Alex Breen then transferred the final piece of equipment—an axe—from the retiring engine to Engine 2602, marking the completion of the transition.

Following the equipment transfer, members of the Fort Lupton Fire Family and the community participated in the traditional wet-down ceremony of the new engine before joining together to push it into Fire Station 2. This centuries-old tradition dates back to the days of horse-drawn fire apparatus, which had to be manually pushed into the firehouse after the horses were unharnessed.

Before the apparatus entered the station, Battalion Chief Joel Hager officially placed Engine 2602 in service with the Weld County Dispatch Center, signifying that the engine was ready to respond to emergencies and serve the citizens of Fort Lupton.

The Fort Lupton Fire Protection District extends its sincere appreciation to the District Board, community members, and firefighters who helped celebrate this important milestone. Engine 2602 stands ready to protect our community and continue the proud tradition of service that defines the Fort Lupton Fire Protection District.
