Aurora Apartment Fire

Around 01:00 on June 15th, 2026 Aurora Fire Rescue a neighbor called 911 and reported a lot of smoke coming from a first floor apartment in the 300 block of N. Potomac Circle. First arriving Battalion 5 observed smoke showing from a two-story apartment building and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Battalion 5 assumed command, conducted a 360° walk around of the building and heard voices inside the burning apartment. Battalion 5 made entry and immediately located an unconscious adult on the floor near a television with loud speakers. The victim was pulled out of the smoke filled apartment to fresh air and treated by paramedics. Firefighters from Engine 11 advanced a hose line and quickly extinguished flames growing in intensity inside the apartment unit. Crews prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring units and the incident was placed under control 10 minutes after the initial 911 call. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to be ok. The fire was accidental, caused by improperly disposed cigarettes. Additional information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
