Fire Station 34 – ARFF 4 is located between two active runway 34R/16L and runway 34L/16R, north of the main terminal and opened in 2005. ARFF Station 4 was originally located on the northwest area of the airport, but was moved when the new runway was constructed.

In the early evening of December 20, 2008, Continental Airlines Flight 1404 (Boeing 737) left the runway while attempting to take off, nearly striking the firehouse and bursting into flames in the steep gully directly to the north of the station. The incident resulted in 2 critical injuries, 36 non critical injuries and no fatalities, the aircraft was a total loss (Hull loss).

In 1996 after a study was conducted by the FAA on response times, a deficiency was found. In January of 1997, Station 34 opened next to taxiways WC & G to better cover the northwest portion of the airport. During this time a new large runway was being constructed and upon completion Station 34 was moved to the grass area in the middle of Runway 16/34.
