The 630 acre Denver Municipal Airport was dedicated in 1929 with two dusty runways, one hanger, a tiny terminal and a windsock. The airport saw many steady changes over the years, including fire protection. The above photo was taken in 1940 of the airport fire crews. On August 25th, 1944 the name was changed to Stapleton Airfield after Denver Mayor.
