Central City Fire Memorial
Fire Memorial
In 2020, the City adopted a Trails Master Plan identifying a trail connection between Gold Mountain Village Apartments and the KOA campground to the downtown core as a high priority project to better connect this neighborhood to the commercial district. As the City moved to implementing the Plan, the community was faced with an awful tragedy, the loss of Central City Fire Department (Colorado) Lieutenant Cody Allen and his wife, volunteer firefighter Shelby Allen from an accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in their home on December 11th, 2020, and their dogs were also deceased by their sides. The City moved forward with constructing this important trail corridor with a segment being dedicated to them both, which is known as the “Stairway to Heaven”. Given their involvement in the community, this trail not only provides a physical linkage for residents and visitors, but it symbolizes community and connection. Cody and Shelby, you are in our thoughts today and always. Cody was 29 years-old, and lieutenant with the fire department, and served as a volunteer since 2009. Shelby was 27 years-old, and also a volunteer firefighter at the fire department since 2016. Their memorial service was held on December 18th, 2020 at the Flatirons Community Church West in Genesee.
