Durango Fire Protection District (DFPD), covering 325 square miles in La Plata & San Juan Counties (Colorado) including the areas of Animas, Animas Valley, Aspen Winds, Bodo Park, Bondad, Cascade Village, East Animas, Edgemont, Electra Lake, Elkhorn Mountain, Elkhorn Ranch, Elmores Corner, Falfa, Falls Creek, Florida, Florida Mesa, Grandview, Greenmount, Hermosa, Hillcrest, Junction Creek, La Posta, Loma Linda, Pinon Acres, Purgatory, Rafter J, Rockwood, San Juan National Forest, Sunnyside, Sunnyside Mesa, Tacoma, Tamarron, Three Springs, Trimble, Timberline, Trimble & Twin Crossing. Durango Fire Protection District was originally formed in the 1880’s as Durango Fire Department and as the Durango Hook And Ladder Corps in 1893. In 2002 Durango Fire & Rescue Authority is formed through an intergovernmental agreement with the consolidation of the Animas Fire Protection District, Hermosa Cliff Fire Protection District, Durango Fire Department and Mercy Ambulance. Since 2014 all operations are run by the Durango Fire Protection District.

Durango Fire Protection District is also known as Durango Fire & Rescue.

Durango Fire Protection District is dispatched by Durango / La Plata Emergency Communications Center.
