Colorado Task Force 1

Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1) Urban Search & Rescue, located in Lakewood at West Metro Fire Rescue Station 10 and the Training Center. (FDID #00022)

Colorado Task Force 1 is a Colorado-based team under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the task force has approximately 200 highly trained members, that include firefighters, paramedics, physicians, structural engineers, hazardous materials technicians, heavy rigging specialists and canine handlers. The Task Force must be totally self-sufficient for the first 72 hours of a deployment.

Colorado Task Force 1 is part of the North Area Technical Rescue Team.

CO-TF1 responds to disasters around the country to find and rescue people who are trapped in urban settings; like building collapses. The task force is made up of personnel from 28 public and private agencies in Colorado.

Task force members have responded to the collapse of the World Trade Center during 9/11, hurricanes, floods and tornadoes.
