On December 29th, 2024 at approximately 13:31 the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority was dispatched by the Loveland Emergency Communications Center to Scheels for a fuel spill in the west parking lot. Squad 46 arrived and stated they had approximately 3-50 gallons leaking from an 80 gallon slip tank in a pickup. They found the pump to be running and they were unable to shut if off. The owner of the vehicle was unable to be found at the initial arrival of the fire units. With the help of Scheels employees they found the owner of the vehicle and were able to get the pump shut off and the leak stopped. A 150 foot containment zone was set up in all directions to protect the public while the spill was contained. Crews were able to use absorbent from apparatus on scene as well as Hazmat 50 upon its arrival to clean up the large amount of diesel that had leaked. All fuel was contained and crews cleaned up the absorbent for it to be disposed of properly.
