Storey County Fire Protection District

Storey County Fire Protection District (SCFPD), located in Storey County (Nevada) including the areas of Cedar Hill Canyon, Crown Point, Flowery Peak, Gold Hill, Lockwood, Long Valley, Mt. Davison, Painted Rock, Red Ravine Creek, Sevenmile Canyon, Six Mile Canyon, Tahoe-Reno Industrial Complex, Virginia City & Virginia Highlands.

Storey County Fire Protection District was originally formed in January of 1861 as a bucket brigade, which was soon abandoned and in February of 1861 the Virginia Engine Company # 1 was formed and was the first engine company in Nevada. At the same time, the Nevada Hook & Ladder # 1 was formed to work with the engine company. Between the two, they were 65 men strong. In March of 1861 the Young America Engine Company # 2 was formed. In 1863 the Eagle Engine Company # 3 and Washoe Engine Company # 4 was formed. In 1864 the Knickerbocker Engine Company # 5 and Confidence Engine Company # 6 was formed. In 1866 Confidence Engine Company # 6 changed their name to the Monumental # 6.

Storey County Fire Protection District has an auto-aid agreement with Reno Volunteer Fire Department and Wadsworth Volunteer Fire Department.
