On May 2nd, 2025 around 21:40 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 1400 block of N. Kingston St. with 911 callers reported to dispatchers that people were trapped inside the building. When Engine 1, Ladder 2 and Battalion Chief 2 arrived they observed flames and a large volume of smoke coming from a ground level apartment in the 3-story building. A second alarm was immediately called due to the high occupancy of the building and possibility of people still inside. Hose lines were advanced into the first and second floors for fire control, search and rescue. Ladders were placed at exterior windows to assist any residents who couldn’t evacuate due to heavy smoke and zero visibility in the hallways. The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes and all searches of the building were clear. The fire was contained to a single apartment on the first floor, but there is smoke damage throughout the structure. 2 people were evaluated by Falck paramedics for smoke inhalation, and no injuries occurred. 19 adults and 5 children are displaced and the American Red Cross was requested. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
