Aurora House Fire
Around 15:45 on March 14th, 2025 Aurora Fire Rescue was dispatched t a possible structure fire in the 800 block of N. Uvalda St. Aurora 911 received numerous reports of a backyard fire extending into a home. A black plume of smoke was widely visible, and the assignment was immediately dispatched as a working fire. Engine 2 laid in from Toledo St. and Ursula St. and positioned on the Alpha side of a small single-story, single-family dwelling with Ladder 2. A large volume of smoke and fire was visible from the Charlie side and a 1 3/4 line was advanced through the front door. Crews pushed through extreme heat and zero visibility while conducting a primary search and fire control. Ladder 2 conducted vertical ventilation and conditions inside the home improved. Engine 3 assisted with water supply and pulled a backup line. Battalion 2 assumed command with Battalion 5 assisting, and Battalion 1 as the incident safety officer. Engine 9 was assigned as medical and evaluated one person who was not transported, and Ladder 8 was assigned RIT. Engine 8 laid in from a second hydrant at Toledo St. and Vaughn St. and advanced a 1 3/4 line through the backyard of the Delta 1 exposure to the rear of the burning home. Gusty winds, a downed electrical line, a fully engulfed shed and burning fence line in the backyard all added to the incident complexity. Despite those challenges, the fire was placed under control within 20 minutes. The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced resident, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
