On August 4th, 2025 around 09:30 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to an RTD A Line commuter train that collided with a tractor trailer at Smith Rd. and Sable Blvd. Initial reports indicated a train derailed after striking a vehicle and prompting a large fire response. Upon arrival, crews confirmed the train was still on the tracks and upright with major damage to a semi-trailer in the intersection. Crews immediately assessed the damage, confirmed no one was trapped and began triage of the scene. 2 people were medically evaluated, and 1 person was transported by Falck to the hospital with minor injuries. Once the incident was under control, personnel from Engine 5, Ladder5 and Heavy Rescue 5 assisted over 50 people including children, adults, and their luggage off the train so they could board a bus and continue their journey. The intersection of Smith Rd. and Sable Blvd. was closed during the incident including the Union Pacific train lines in the area. Aurora Police Department is investigating the crash.
