Berthoud Structure Fire

The Loveland Emergency Communications Center dispatched a first alarm assignment consisting of resources from Berthoud Fire Protection District, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Thompson Valley EMS to a residential structure fire in the 3400 block of Heron Lakes Parkway in Northwest Berthoud at 04:07 on September 2nd, 2025. Battalion 61 arrived on scene of a large home with obvious signs of a working fire; he established Heron Lakes Command. Engine 43 was assigned to complete a 360 and initiate fire attack on the exterior fire, the officer reported an outside-in fire with fire in the attic space, the home was one story on the alpha side and three stories on the charlie side. Engine 61 initiated a primary search, supported by Rescue 42 once they arrived on scene. Engine 62 completed water supply and the officer was assigned as the Fire Attack Group Supervisor. Battalion 41 was assigned as the Incident Safety Officer. As the searches were finishing up, heavy fire was observed through the roof. Safety advised the IC to withdraw the crews; the IC shifted the strategy to defensive. A deck gun and blitzfire were put into place and a request for a ladder truck was made for an aerial master stream. Structural collapse occurred shortly after crews went to defensive operations.
