South Metro 2nd Alarm Fire

On March 27th at 02:23 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire in the 6600 block of S. Oneida Court in Centennial with 911 callers reported active smoke and flames coming from the house. Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and reported parties were stuck in the home, some unable to evacuate themselves. Deputies began offering support for evacuations. Firefighters arrived and immediately began working on access into the home to rescue the trapped individuals and putting water on the fire. A 2nd alarm was called to bring extra resources to the scene due to the amount of occupants inside the home. Firefighters worked diligently, rescuing five people from the fire. Three others were able to exit the residence on their own. A total of six individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. Sadly, two of the individuals who were inside the residence died. SMFR Fire Investigators ruled the cause of this fire accidental due to the improper disposal of smoking materials outside the building. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
