The week of May 19th, 2025 the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (Colorado Department of Public Safety-DFPC) with Priority 1 Air Rescue held hoist operations at Staunton State Park in Pine. Wildland firefighters and pilots spent the week in multiple locations getting crucial training in hoist rescues and extractions using the DFPC S70i Firehawk. The helicopter was used when landing is not possible and a patient is critically injured and needs rescuing. That’s where hoist operations come in, lifting and transporting individuals directly into the helicopter or to another safe point. With expert guidance from Priority 1 Air Rescue, these individuals are building vital skills to support rescue efforts throughout Colorado, helping to save lives more quickly and effectively.
