
Douglas County Cottontail Lane Brush Fire
South Metro Brush Fire
At 08:22 on August 12th, 2025 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to an outside fire in the 11000 block of Cottontail Lane in unincorporated Douglas County. Dispatch advised that 911 callers reporting a brush fire about 50 yards from a structure with a possible power pole on fire. Engine 42 arrived to a small brush fire in tall grass and shrub oak, encroaching on one outbuilding and about one acre in size and pulled 1 3/4 pre-connected hose line for initial fire attack. Tender 41 arrived and connected a short relay to Engine 42 for additional water and Brush 46 pulled a line in for the left flank fire attack. Battalion 5 arrived and assumed command. Crews establish a wet line around the perimeter and the fire was held to approximately one acre. The fire was put under control at 8:49 and crews worked on hot spots for a short time. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Investigators from South Metro’s Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was caused by a bird making contact with power lines.
