South Metro Structure Fire

At approximately 16:00 on May 31st, 2025 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 9600 block of Cherryvale Drive in Highlands Ranch. Dispatch advised that 911 caller reporting smoke from the front door. Battalion 1 arrived to a two-story single-family residential with smoke from the Alpha side and from the vent on the Delta side. Tower 18 arrived started with the primary search and Engine 17 pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack. Engine 20 secured a water supply and Engine 16 pulled a 2nd line to the first floor and then to the 2nd floor with Medic 16. Crews initially encountered low water pressure, but quickly secured a reliable water source. During operations, homeowners informed firefighters that two dogs were inside the residence. Crews conducted an extensive search and successfully rescued one dog, who was treated with oxygen on scene. Sadly, the second dog was later located and did not survived. One person was evaluated on scene by Medic 18 on scene with no transport. The fire began in the kitchen and extended into the ceiling of the second floor and attic space. The SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
