Loveland Horse Rescue
On February 16th at 13:23 Loveland Fire Rescue Authority responded for large animal rescue assignment was dispatched to the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch west of Loveland for a horse trapped in water. Crews arrived to find a horse that had fallen through the ice in a small pond on the ranch property, she was able to keep her head above the water. A couple ranch-hands were attempting rescue when Engine 47 arrived on scene. The crew of Engine 47 dressed out a rescuer in an ice suit to access the horse. The ice proved to be thick enough for multiple rescuers to approach the horse to initiate the rescue operation. Battalion 41 assumed command and the Captain of Tower 46 was assigned as the Rescue Group Supervisor. Firefighters were able to get rescue straps around the horse which is named “Bella” and after several attempts were able to assist her out of the water and back onto the ice. After a couple minutes she was able to stand and walk away from the pond and the eventually to a barn for warming. Information provide by Loveland Fire Rescue Authority
