Fire Science Live Burn
On February 2nd, 2026 Adams 12 school district FutureForward program at Washington Square Fire Science in Thornton held their annual program exercise which involved four disciplines of high school students by two purpose build sheds, one being an accidental fire and the other as arson. The first part was the construction students built many sheds. Completed ones were sold and two raw sheds were used to the exercise. The Fire Science students practiced handline advancement, observed fire behavior, then extinguished the fires. The EMT students utilized one the schools dummies retrieved to them. The CSI students, after the fire was extinguished went into the sheds to determine the cause. Thornton Fire Department Truck 74 and Medic 74 were on hand as a safety precaution. These second year Fire Science students will spend 4 days at a local Fire Department Training Academy working live fire simulations in April of 2026.
