Aurora 2nd Alarm Apartment Fire

 Just after 14:30 on August 3rd, 2026 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 1620o block of E. Alameda Place at the Greensview Apartments. Aurora 911 received multiple 911 callers reported an apartment building on fire and a plume of dark smoke was visible from across the area as crews responded. First arriving PIO 2 observed smoke showing and upgraded the response to a working fire. Flames were seen spreading up exterior balconies from the first floor into the attic and a second alarm was requested. Chief 2 conducted a 360º and assumed Alameda Command on the Charlie (east) side. Engine 8 pulled a cross lay for transitional attack on the Alpha side, then advanced inside and established a water supply. Crews deployed several hose lines to bring the fire under control while additional firefighters searched the smoke-filled apartments and ventilated the roof. All searches were clear. One resident was evaluated by paramedics but was not transported to the hospital. Several pets, including dogs, cats, turtles, and a snake were all rescued and reunited with their owners. Fire medics provided first aid and oxygen to a cat suffering from smoke inhalation, and all the animals are expected to recover. Temperatures in Aurora reached 101°F while firefighters worked on scene, creating extremely challenging conditions. The fire was declared under control at approximately 17:00. Sable Altura Fire Rescue responded and provided additional SCBA cylinders for crews on scene. Approximately 50 residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Aurora Fire Rescue Investigations Bureau determined the fire was accidental and originated on an exterior balcony. A crew of 4 overtime firefighters staffed Training Ladder 21 and provided fire watch for the building overnight. Information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
