Aurora Apartment Fire

Around 05:50 on January 25th, 2026 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 14000 block of E. Mississippi Place. Aurora 911 received a report of a trapped person inside the apartment unit. Engine 4 arrived to a working structure with heavy fire from the ground floor on a two-story multi-family and pulled 1 3/4 for fast attack and secured their own water supply. Ladder 8 conducted a split search and Battalion 2 assumed command. Two Ladder 8 firefighters went through the front door and the other two Ladder 8 firefighters went through a bedroom window to search the residence for the trapped party. Crews found fire in the kitchen, living room, and hallway and high heat and low visibility inside the unit. The victim was immediately located and removed from the unit through the same bedroom window used by the Ladder 8 firefighters. The victim was handed off to Engine 8, who had assumed medical, and was transported emergent to a local hospital by Medic 103. Primary and secondary searches were conducted and were negative for any additional victims. There was a report of a second victim still inside, but none were located. The fire caused heavy damage to the unit, but there was no extension into any of the other units in the complex. Animal control was notified for two turtles that were found in the unit. The occupant of the residence was displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
