Aurora Basement Fire
At approximately 14:10 on January 23rd, 2026 Aurora 911 dispatched Aurora Fire Rescue to a possible structure fire in the 300 block of N. Scranton St. Engine 11 arrived with a working fire with smoke showing from a two-story residential and the call was upgraded to a working structure fire. Crews found the fire in the basement and started fire attack. Ladder 2 conducted a primary search of the residence and located a dog in the basement and firefighters began life saving efforts but unfortunately the dog did not make it due to smoke inhalation. Battalion 3 assumed command and the fire was put under control within 20 minutes. Secondary searches of the structure were negative. No injuries were reported and the fire caused moderate damage to the basement with no extension into the rest of the home. Three adults were been displaced by the fire.
