Aurora House Fire

On September 7th, 2026 at 16:49 Aurora Fire Rescue was dispatched to the 600 block of S. Troy St. Engine 7 was only a few blocks away and arrived within minutes to find heavy smoke pouring from the front door as Aurora Police officers attempted to enter the home and search for anyone inside. Engine 7 advanced a hose line into the tri-level home and quickly attacked the fire while additional firefighters searched through heavy smoke conditions. Crews confirmed that no one was inside, and the fire was brought under control just 11 minutes after the initial 911 call. During the search, firefighters rescued two pets. A dog was brought down a ladder from the second floor, and a cat was also safely removed from the home. Aurora Police Department transported both animals to an animal hospital for care. The dog was reported to be in critical condition, while the cat is expected to be OK. No people were injured. The fire caused major fire and water damage to the main level of the home, with smoke damage throughout the structure. Three adults were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
