Buckley Vegetation Fire
Just before 09:30 on March 29th, 2026 Aurora Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of E. Mississippi Ave. and E. Ceylon St. for reports of grass fires burning nearby. While enroute, a large plume of smoke was widely visible. Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 4 observe Buckley Space Force Fire & Emergency Services Firefighters working to control vegetation fires inside of base property, and two small fires burning on City of Aurora property. Engine 9 and Brush 8 began direct attack and quickly contained both fires. Additional Aurora crews positioned along the base perimeter fence and protected the adjacent vegetation from igniting. A mutual-aid brush truck from Sable Altura Fire Rescue also responded. Buckley Crash 1, Crash 2 and Crash 3 conduced mobile direct attack on multiple flame fronts. Engine 1 and Tender 8 provided water supply and advanced lines for fire suppression, and Engine 2’s 4×4 was used for mop up in the heavier fuels. During the incident no structures were threatened in Aurora, no injuries occurred, and no emergency phone notifications were needed. The incident was under control at 10:45 and with no further threat of the fire spreading into Aurora, AFR crews were released by Buckley command.
