At 08:55 on July 2nd, 2026, Colorado Parks and Wildlife were called to a fawn trapped in a storm drain near Bramble St. and Coachline Rd. in Castle Rock. Upon arrival, the Wildlife Officer found a fawn that did not appear to be injured but there was no easy access for removal. Castle Rock Fire & Rescue Department dispatched a confined space rescue response non-emergent for a combined animal rescue and impromptu training opportunity. Chief 158 assumed command, Safety 151 was the incident safety officer and the Technical Rescue Team from Station 155 worked on setting up a tripod for a hoist rescue. Quint 151’s crew began removing the grate and kept an eye on the mother doe, which had been initially been aggressive toward the Wildlife Officer. After a few minutes of equipment clanking, the frightened fawn wiggled its way out of a narrow pipe and ran for cover. Firefighters completed their training evolution and cleared the scene.
