Foothills Small Vegetation Fire

On March 3rd, 2026 at 15:25 Foothills Fire Protection District was dispatched to an outside smoke investigation at Matthews-Winters Park, 1103 Hwy. 93 in Golden. Jeffcom 911 upgraded the call to a vegetation fire from 911 caller reporting fire from the grass area within the park. Crews arrived on scene to a small vegetation fire approximately 200 yards from the highway inside the park and near a small grove of trees. The fire was quickly extinguished and deemed to be an illegal outside fire. The fire was initially thought to have been caused by a downed power line that crossed through an open-space area.
